This reminder comes from my dear friend, Carolyn. The following image and article were recently in the Chicago Tribune and shows an attacker moments before he raped his victim. He waited until his victim, who was talking on the phone, went into the second door of her apartment, then he darted on after her. Sadly, ladies, the world has some scary, horrible idiots out there. Don't let your false sense of safety give those idiots the split second it takes to hurt you. Please pass this on to your girlfriends, sisters and co workers.
As a victim of a stupid attack, in PUBLIC, I can say the scary feeling of being violated will remain with me forever. It took place on a busy street, in front of a bar, in Chicago. I was walking home, talking on my cell phone. As I approached Diversey and Sheridan, surrounded by people in front of Duffy's, two guys managed to get behind me. The light turned green and they began to run up behind me, each taking the opportunity to place their hand on my behind, violating me in a vulgar fashion - in public. Not one person in front of that bar did a damn thing. I'll never forget that Saturday night in Lincoln Park. And that's why I walk home at night like I'm a detective on a mission - and you should too. Thanks, Carolyn, for passing this on.
