Ahh, to work in International Tourism. Every day there’s a new surprise. I was invited by the Spanish Tourist Board for
a cocktail reception yesterday afternoon at the W Hotel on Lakeshore Drive. The reception promoted one of Spain’s most
beautiful and richest regions, Catalonia, or— Catalunya in the Catalan language.
However, many of you know it as the region just below France, where Barcelona
and the Pyrenees lie, while I like to think of it as the region where my Grandmother
is from. While at the reception, I met
with the GM of Iberia Airlines (my favorite airline by the way) and learned
that Iberia and British Airways have just merged, and while they’re still going
through the “pregnancy phase”, there’s also talk of making an alliance with a
North American Airline, possibly making this merger the biggest ever! You know what that could mean?? Well, perhaps
a start to cutting out all those new nickel and dime fees for cookies or checking
in an extra bag.
